Today in class, we reviwed the activity that we completed yesterday. In general, we found that there were several factors involved in heat transfer within a system:
- Mass of the substance (m)
- Temperature change (∆T)
- Type of substance
The type of substance has a significant effect on how much energy can be transferred between substances. You can get a measure of the ability of a substance to exchange energy by looking at the substance’s specific heat capacity, c.
All this accumulated into the formula q=mc∆T, the formula for heat transfer.
